The Highest Calling

In a world so "connected" and "politicized," we can find ourselves forgetting the MOST important element of being a minister/pastor. We are CALLED by the SOVERIGN LORD to the most important task that exists.

In our attempts to be connected to what's happening in the world; or to "advance" as a pastor/minister; and - even to advance "politically" within the denomination, etc., we sometimes "forget" our calling. Please note the "forget." I do not honeslty believe we forget, we just become side-tracked easilly and lose focus. However, to lose focus is to effectively become more off course from our call of God upon our lives and more on course with achieving personal agendas and worldly accomplishments.

Some scriptures to read and reflect upon regarding the call of the SOVERIGN LORD upon our lives include:

John 15: 1 - 17 Ephesians 3: 7 - 13
Jeremiah 1: 5 Ephesians 4: 7 - 16, 17 - 32

There are many more, but these would be sufficient for us to start our time of renewal - and, as a group, I think there needs to be a time of renewal. Joel 2: 12 - 17 comes to mind for those of us who serve as ministers/pastors. God is not, in my opinion, pleased when men of faith are distracted from the call upon their lives and preoccuppied with much of what we have become preoccuppied with. There needs to be a rending of hour hearts and a genuine return to God and His calling upon our lives.

You may have more spiritual gifts, but that is not your achievement. God gifts us for His purpose and we are called to live our lives in accordance to His purpose for our lives. We need to be reminded of that fact; repent of our side-trackedness from His purpose; return our focus to God's Call upon our lives; and, strive daily to be obedient to God's Call upon our lives.

Subsequent postings will deal with "the pastor and His purpose." We know a lot about being "purpose driven," but we must make sure it is HIS PURPOSE and not our agendas.
